What is the future of Dorchester?

What would you do with a 20-acre waterfront property that overlooks the city? A once planned mega campus for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, the Bayside Expo Center, which is currently on the market for sale, presents a redevelopment opportunity next to none. The rare opportunity of a transit-oriented location immediately adjacent to the  MBTA Red Line & Commuter Rail JFK/UMass Station–not to mention the pure size of the site–is attracting institutional interest.

Officials at the nearby University of Massachusetts at Boston have expressed a vision to collaborate on a private-public sector partnership in hopes of building a “modern-day Harvard Square”–a mixed-use destination that incorporates residential, commercial and educational uses by the University community.

Across the street, the Boston Globe’s previous HQ is set to be transformed into a 700,000 square foot “multi-tenant innovation park.” Also able to leverage its transit-oriented location, “The Beat” will be home to co-working space, private offices, lab space, and a food hall to attract leading STEM tenants.

In light of the success of Hub25 bringing luxury housing into Northern Dorchester, this year’s most anticipated project, DotBlock, a board-approved mixed-use development, will add 362 luxury apartments to Boston’s 3^rd fastest growing submarket.

Dorchester will continue to evolve and be a key neighborhood to watch.
