The South End is not known for its office space, but that may be about to change.
The mainly residential neighborhood has just received approval by the Boston Redevelopment Authority for an 11-story office building at 321 Harrison Ave, according to the Boston Globe.
Development on the site, which overlooks the turnpike, would start this spring and aim to open by 2018.
This area has seen a ton of new housing development in recent years, with more than 1,000 condos and apartments across a few blocks, but this would be the first new office building.
The building would be mid-rise, with 230,000 SF of office space across eight floors and would include a three-story garage.
Situated across from the new Ink Block development, this area has shifted from being very industrial to welcoming new development.
While the location would be a shift for many businesses and slightly further from the T than many would find ideal, it could potentially offer cheaper rents than the very popular neighborhoods nearby, including Back Bay.
Specific rents and further details about the building have yet to be announced, check back for future updates.
