Developers have big plans for the transformation of the Boston Flower Exchange property and they have finally been outlined, according to the Boston Globe.
The area is set to be transformed, becoming a tech office campus employing anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 people and hoping to compete with Kendall Square in Cambridge.
The Abbey Group, developers behind the transformation of the Landmark Center, won the bidding war for the 5.6 acre warehouse and parking lots last year.
The plans for the redevelopment of the area were announced last week, including a commercial campus with the hopes of creating a plethora of new jobs.
The actual specifics of the plans have yet to be announced, but the development will include parking, public space and even some housing.
In total the development could include 1.6 million square feet and will definitely include office space and space for commercial use, which neighborhood organizations in the area are very happy about.
Some of the concerns for the area do include transportation to the site, which isn’t conveniently located near any public train or busy road, as well as the possibility of retail jobs replacing the light industry in the area.
A formal proposal has yet to be laid out and 14 vendors still operate in the Flower Exchange and need to move out by the end of the year.
Developers hope to move companies over from Kendall Square and really expand this new hub.
Plans hope to move forward as soon as possible, but the formal proposal is probably still a few months away.
